Ensuring Consistency in Teacher Assessment at KS2 and KS3
Who is it for?
All Year 6 teachers, primary subject curriculum leaders, secondary Year 7 teachers, secondary subject leaders, teaching assistants.
What are the benefits?
This programme aims to develop consistency in teacher assessment at KS2 and KS3, thereby raising the expectation of student attainment.
Teachers from both phases will come together to explore common practice in assessment strategies between the associated primary schools and secondary schools to develop a common understanding of standards and progression.
The sessions will focus on assessment and moderation delivered through practical activities. Staff will be expected to provide samples of work prior to/during the sessions as these will be used during a KS2 to KS3 standardisation activity. Through professional dialogue teachers will reach an agreement on levels of attainment by confirming a shared understanding of the characteristics of a level. The group will work towards creating benchmarking materials to inform future practice.
The course will question how effectively information regarding student achievement is currently shared and used during transition. In addition, how data can be used more effectively in secondary schools to help curriculum planning and the setting of targets for subjects, departments, classes and individual students will be considered.
