RQT Primary and Secondary School Programme

Mastering Teaching and Learning for Early Leadership

An RQT is a recently qualified teacher, typically someone that has been teaching from 2 to 5 years.

The Charter TSA RQT Primary and Secondary School Programme has been designed to reflect the challenges teachers in the early stages of their careers face within the classroom. The course builds on the content and approach of the NQT programme, to provide a progressive professional development pathway with practical support, strategies and ideas.

Who is it for?

Our Primary and Secondary RQT programme is aimed at teachers in the second, third or fourth year of their career and those returning to teaching after a gap.

What are the benefits?

The programme explores the key skills and competencies required to thrive in the classroom and to develop into a leadership role.

Through combining in-school coaching support, a gap task, and opportunities for personal reflection and action planning, the programme improves classroom practice and develops towards middle leadership.

The programme will focus on the role of the subject leader and leading a specialist subject area, encouraging participants to engage further in the wider life and development of their schools, and promoting collaboration through the development of a local RQT network.

A key element of this programme is the support of a coach from within the participant’s own school. Participants will need to identify this coach and meet with them in advance of programme commencement. The coach should be an existing middle or senior leader with the ability to undertake a minimum of two coaching conversations between November 2018 and March 2019.
